President's Message October 2018
October 2018

Dear Rotarians & Friends,

The Rotary International theme for October is ‘Economic and Community Development Month’, with the mission to help reduce poverty in underserved communities through training, well-paying jobs, and access to financial management institutions.

World Polio Day is going to be held on 24 October. In 1985, Rotary launched the PolioPlus program to globally eradicate polio through the mass vaccination of children. Rotarians volunteered to immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122 countries since inception. Only 22 polio cases were confirmed last year, a reduction of more than 99.9 percent since the 1980s, when there were about 1,000 cases per day.

In addition to sponsoring the construction of the Brain-based Learning Playground at Nong Kohn School last month, we are going to supply the school’s new ‘Monkey Library’ with 120 children’s books this month as part of our ongoing commitment to education development in the region.

Please browse our Club web site for regular updates on our events and activities, and you are welcome to join us in our fellowship meetings and service activities. I look forward to seeing you there to Be the Inspiration.

Yours in Rotary,

Brian Anderson

President 2018-19
