Service Project Handover – Library Books
Nov 24, 2025 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Please be invited to the handover of one of our community service projects to promote education and literacy for the children at Ban Nern Phayom School on 24 November. In another international joint-project with the Rotary Club of Aireborough, we are going to deliver a set of 160 children’s books in Thai language to augment the school’s library. The books were selected by the academics of Chulalongkorn University to promote literacy, increase vocabulary, and reader comprehension.

The teacher Sirpapop stated, “Our children love reading illustrated storybooks and at school we have reading promotion activities where children write summaries of the books they have read.”

It is a government school for 130 children grades 1 to 8 with 11 teachers, and located in a remote, undeveloped region in the Nong Phlap subdistrict, about a 45-minute drive from Bluport Shopping Mall. There is no provincial electricity grid in the area but they do have intermittent solar power. The WIFI Internet connection is weak and often interrupted making online learning difficult. We are going to meet at Bluport parking garage at 10:00 and caravan to the school.

“Children’s books are a powerful tool enhancing the brain development of a young child, especially their all-important language skills. Stories not only bring happiness and enjoyment, but also add new words to a child’s vocabulary, help them develop and practice their comprehension, and lay the foundation for them to understand the concept of reading.” (UNICEF Thailand, 2024)

Register your name on CR as usual and be sure to view the map for the location and directions to the school. We hope to see you there to UNITE FOR GOOD in the spirit of Rotary!

Club Lunch Meeting - Bring The Elephant Home
Nov 25, 2025 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Please be invited to our club lunch meeting on 25 November where we welcome guest speaker Dr. Antoinette van de Water, a Dutch conservationist who will speak about the research and development activities of the Bring The Elephant Home Foundation. During her talk, Antoinette will share how their community-driven approaches in Thailand, from fieldwork to science, are shaping new models of human–elephant coexistence.

In Thailand, the focus is on Kuiburi National Park, home to more than 300 wild elephants. Antoinette and her team collaborate with farmers and rangers on practical, nature-based solutions: studying elephant behavior, community engagement, planting elephant-friendly crops, and using beehive fences to reduce human-elephant conflicts. A flagship initiative is the Tom Yum Project, where farmers grow lemongrass, galangal, and chili peppers, crops elephants avoid, and turn them into sustainable, elephant-friendly products.

About the BTEH Foundation

Founded by Dr. Antoinette, the organization is a Dutch, Thai, and South African NGO, officially registered in Hua Hin and they have spent more than 20 years working in Asia and Africa to transform human–elephant conflict into coexistence.

Registration is required and if you register and then decide that you won’t be able to attend, be sure to delete your names from the registered list on our Club Runner website by 23 November.

We need to inform the venue of the headcount in advance and non-Rotarian friends are welcome to attend as always.

We hope to see you there!

Service Project Handover – CPR Training Manikins
Nov 27, 2025 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM

Please be invited to the handover ceremony of new manikins for CPR training at Hua Hin Hospital on 27 November. Our club sponsored the purchase of 13 manikins to increase the hospital’s ability to conduct lifesaving CPR training for more local organizations as well as the groups of 50 children in our ongoing 3-day water safety and drowning prevention program. The hospital currently has 12 manikins and their medical professionals often teach in groups of 50 people, and our contribution brings it to 25 manikins in total, enabling two trainees per manikin.

The hospital’s aim is to be able to train more people faster by providing greater opportunity for hands-on practice on the manikins during the training sessions. The manikins are used for training basic life support skills, especially mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions for adult and student trainees to acquire proper life-saving skills according to international standards.

For many years, the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin has conducted many meaningful service projects for the hospital and last year we purchased a new, fully equipped ambulance to provide state-of-the-art emergency service for our stakeholders. We look forward to continuing our relationship with the hospital for the health and well-being of our community.

Be sure to register your attendance in advance and we hope to see you there to UNITE FOR GOOD in the spirit of Rotary!

Dec 23, 2025 2:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Please be informed that we are going to inspect and hand over the solar-powered electricity installation at Nun Nid’s Dog Shelter on 23 December. This is our joint-project with the Rotary Club of San Francisco Greater Mission and private donors to secure long-term sustainable power, lighting and a new water pumping system for the operation, as well as support the ethical treatment of animals.

The shelter has been managed by the Buddhist nun, Khun Nid for the last nine years and currently provides food and medical treatment for about 360 dogs and 70 cats. It is located in a remote, undeveloped region in Pran Buri district about a 60-minute drive from the Hua Hin city center, and the area does not have access to the provincial electricity grid. The dogs are not aggressive but a never-ending “barkathon” is guaranteed.

It is a student-led initiative of 80 students from the Animal Science faculty to vaccinate about 240 beef and dairy cows at 12 small farms in the region, and neuter up to 80 cats and dogs as well as administer rabies vaccinations. This initiative provides students with hands-on, practical experience organizing community service projects and working with animals.

Our club sponsored the student volunteer meals, equipment, the Children’s Day activity, banana trees, and round-trip transportation using three large buses.

9 January

9:00-12:00 Student volunteers will host a Children’s Day with food and donate second-hand clothes and toys for the children.

13:00-16:00 Student volunteers will plant 40 banana trees and do painting at the school. Some students will work with the animals at the farms.

10 January

9:00-16:00 Student volunteers will continue planting trees and painting the school. Some students will work with the animals at the farms.

11 January

Wrap-up the event activities and return to the university.

National Children’s Day - CHANGED TO 9 JANUARY
Jan 09, 2026 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

THE EVENT DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO 9 JANUARY.

Please join us for another excursion to the Bueng Nakhon branch of Ban Nern Phayom School to support their National Children’s Day activities and hand over our donation of blankets for all the children on 9 January.

Officials from the Royal Rainmaking Project will co-sponsor the Children’s Day with activities, snacks and scholarships from 8:30-11:00, and lunch from 11:00-12:00.

The school educates 38 students with four teachers from kindergarten to grade 6 and we have conducted many service projects there over the last two years. It is the same school where we installed the dual-lithium battery and DC/AC inverter that provides sustainable and uninterrupted electricity generated by the solar photo-voltaic array.

Located in the mountainous region of Bueng Nakhon, the school and the local villagers are not connected to the national electricity grid but a limited amount of solar power is in use. The school is located about a 75-minute drive from the Hua Hin city center on paved roads and we might organize van transport depending on the number of registered attendees.

Club Lunch Meeting – How to Add Life to Your Years
Jan 13, 2026 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM

“Living Longer vs. Living Better: How to Add Life to Your Years”

Please be invited to our club lunch meeting where we welcome Dr. Anthony Perillo, a long-time health and wellness executive and former Chief Wellness Officer at Chiva-Som in Hua Hin, for an engaging and practical talk on healthspan – the years of life lived with energy, independence, and purpose. Drawing on decades of experience in preventive and lifestyle-based health, Anthony will explore why most men don’t decline suddenly but gradually, what truly drives aging beyond weight alone, and what simple, evidence-informed steps can help protect mobility, strength, and quality of life. This talk is designed to be accessible, non-technical, and immediately relevant for anyone interested in staying active, capable, and engaged for years to come.

Registration is required and if you register and then decide that you won’t be able to attend, be sure to delete your names from the registered list on our Club Runner website by 11 January. We need to inform the venue of the headcount in advance and non-Rotarian friends are welcome to attend.
