The Rotaract Club with the Engineer’s Club of Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin – Wangklaikangwon Campus in Hua Hin conducted a remarkable renovation project for the buildings of Ban Nern Payom School for three days on 14-16 February. The remote school educates 31 children ages 6 to 12 years old in the mountainous region of Bueng Nakhon near the Pran Buri lake, and a solar photovoltaic system is employed to provide electricity for the school since there is no grid electricity in the area.
Between the two clubs, over 70 students had set up camp and slept overnight in tents at the school to carry out this incredibly self-motivated initiative because the school is located about 90 minutes from the Hua Hin city center. It was highly admirable and impressive to witness how well-organized the students had planned and worked together to carry out this project with the ‘Service Above Self’ approach to community service through the Magic of Rotary.
Further to the renovation, the university students played a lot of fun games with the kids and provided gifts for all including sports equipment, backpacks and snacks. The Rotaractors prepared the lunch onsite for the children as well as serving ice cream for all the attendees. Additionally, in a joint project with our long-time friends from the Rotary Club of Aireborough in England, we donated 160 children’s books for the school’s library and sponsored the lunch for the kids.
Special thanks to Rotaract President Sudarat, Winnie the Faculty Advisor and all of the participating students, as well as our very active member Rotarian Benjamas the Youth Service director in our club, for working together to make this great project a huge success!
Our club is the sponsor through Rotary International for both the Rotaract Club of Rajamangala and the Rotaract Club of Stamford International University and we have enjoyed a long, successful history of working together on joint service projects for the underprivileged in our community for many years.
