President's Message August 2021
August 2021

Dear Members of Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin.

As we move into the 2nd month of Rotary Year 2021 (2064) 2022 (2065) I would like the acknowledge the difficulties many of our members have encountered not only here in Thailand but especially those who have been trapped oversees during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is difficult to imagine that if you have based your life on a rotation of living in you parent country and a second home here in Thailand how this has affected your lives.

We have missed the participation of our members who previously have been active in our club in the many projects we have strived to complete despite the constraints of the last 18 months.

Zoom has become the new world order not by choice, however through constraints put on face-to-face meetings. I have spoken to many of our members who still remain here in Hua Hin, yet feel they still prefer the old style than the new, I appreciate what you are saying but this is currently out of our control and however much I enjoy forward planning, have to live day to day on this,

As part of the family Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin, you not only play an important role in inspiring current members, but also in attracting new ones.

Finding a new member can be as simple as inviting someone you know to your next meeting whether by zoom or hopefully at our weekly meetings or fellowship evenings once we return to some normality. We are still striving to continue with our projects and those members who feel comfortable with joining us at these events you will always be welcome.

The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin is a very diverse family culturally, representing 15 countries; however, we are also part of a worldwide team striving to make a difference globally by providing services to humanity which in the last 18 months has become more prevalent.

This membership month, I want you to remember that you are helping build a team that can strengthen your local community and make the world a better place to live.

When I joined the Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin I was looking for something to occupy my time in retirement, coming from a public service charity orientated Organisation, however since joining this membership has become a vocation for me, like all our members I have now joined a network that has connected me to the world joining a network of some 1.2 million like minded people who want to take action in improving the quality of life for those who are less fortunate than us.

Over the years our members have worked hard to raise the funds through our golf tournament to give something back to our local community. Once again the Golf Committee has started planning to run the tournament, again at Banyan for the 12th year and on the 26th November.  As President I ask all our members to support the efforts of that committee in whatever way they can.

Since January this year we have seen 7 new members join our club with others in the pipeline to join our family, sadly we have also lost one of our founding members who through restrictions in travel has joined a new satellite club in the UK and we wish Alun well with this venture.

I personally look forward to welcoming back those members who have not been able to return to Thailand, and share a glass or two with them.

YIR
