President's Message September 2022
September 2022

Dear Fellow Rotarians, and friends of Rotary,

September is the month of Basic Education and Literacy.

Rotary International states that:
More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are literate. That is 17 percent of the
world’s adult population.

Rotary Internationals goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic
education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.

How does Rotary make things happen
We take action to empower educators to inspire learning at all ages.
The Rotary Club of Royal Hua Hin are proud to be fully supporting this goal and taking
action to make it happen by using the Rotary Education center to inspire teachers to
become educators.

The launch of our latest project “Free English online program” on the 13th August in
partnership with the Rotary Club of Thavaravadi to teach 32 teachers at the Anuban
Hua Hin Nongkhon school a one year online course to develop their English skills.
The Free English online program was developed by the Rotary Club of Scarborough in
Canada and this is the 6th Year the Rotary Club of Thavaravadi have been running this
program and has gained recognition not only within Rotary District 3330, but also from
the RC Scarborough.

The participating teachers have already demonstrated their enthusiasm for this project
by sending regular updates to the Rotary Club of Thavaravadi of the work they are
doing, and they have now started teaching the students English using the same online
program.

This project is proving that our club’s investment into the Rotary Education Center
project is finally paying dividends that can only benefit the local communities.
Another school in the area has also shown an interest in using the REC and using the
“Free English online program”.

This project is only successful due to the work of our club’s members who have actively
raised funds to support our projects and our sponsors who provided the funds to
achieve our dream.

Once again I will take this opportunity to remind our members that our annual amateur
golf classic will be held on the 25th November at Banyan Golf Club, and the continued
support of our members will go towards raising the funds to make our projects support
our local community that are starting to make a difference.

Yours in Rotary

Phil Lawrence
