President's Message September 2019
September 2019

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

September is the month of Basic Education and Literacy.

UNESCO has stated in a new report that the world is about to fall severely short of its education commitments.  By 2030 it is expected that 20% of young people and 30% of adults worldwide will still be unable to read.

A strong foundation in basic education and literacy is essential for reducing poverty, improving health, encouraging economic and community development, and creating more peaceful, thriving communities.

Rotary supports activities and training to improve education for all children and literacy for children and adults around the world.

Our club is currently supporting a number of educational projects, ‘Thai Voices’ - providing teacher training and rewriting the curriculum at Petchaburi Panyanukul school, which is a school for children with special needs.  The Brain-Based Playground at Nongkhon school with its Monkey Library is already complete, up and running. The plan for the Rotary Education Centre at Nongkhon school is already well under way and just awaits completion of the building construction.  I am pleased to advise that the decision was made only this week for our club to donate 1,000,000.00 THB towards the project and the official hand over of the cheque will take place on Monday, September 2nd at 11.00 am.

RCRHH will continue to assess the needs of local schools and help provide basic education and literacy where needed.  However, all these worthy projects will not be possible to maintain unless we succeed with our main fundraising project, The Annual Charity Golf Classic Tournament in November.  Things are proceeding well so far, and on behalf of all members of RCRHH, I thank the Fund-Raising Committee who have been working tirelessly to raise money to ensure all these projects and future ones are possible.

Yours In Rotary
