President's Message April 2020

April 2020

Dear fellow Rotarians,

April is Maternal and Child Health Month in the Rotary Calendar, as much as we care for this issue, humankind is now facing a global crisis Covid 19. Perhaps the biggest crisis of our generation.

In order to stop the epidemic, entire populations need to comply with certain guidelines. Many short-term emergency measures will become a fixture of life. That is the nature of emergencies.

Consider, washing your hands with soap often. This has been one of the greatest advances ever in human hygiene. This simple action saves millions of lives every year. While we take it for granted, it was only in the 19th century that scientists discovered the importance of washing hands with soap, understand that these tiny organisms cause diseases, soap can remove them.

Consider, wearing a face mask if you must be out in public places. One of the measures for this disease is social distancing, 2 metres at least or stay home.

Our members have been notified that our weekly meetings and fellowship evenings have been canceled till further notice to comply with the Thai government's emergency decree.

Though we can't hold our usual meetings and events, we have ways to stay engaged and serve the communities.

Last month, our club contributed 5,000 B. to District 3330 to produce face masks and hand sanitizers which will be sent to our club for distribution to people who need them. We donated 10,000 B. to Hua Hin Municipality to support for food for those working around the clock at the checkpoint in Borfai area.

At the time of this crisis I wish you all well, stay healthy, stay safe.

Warm regards,

Napa Keawtem

President 2019-20
