We had the pleasure of welcoming many visiting Rotarians from clubs from around the world and guests to our lunch meeting on 11 February. The first order of business which is always a highlight for any meeting, was the induction of our newest member Karl St. George, the chair of the British Chamber of Commerce (BCCT) Western Seaboard in Thailand.
Next, we conducted the formalization of a Rotary ‘Friendship Club Agreement’ with our good friends from the Rotary Club of Sokndal in Norway, which was also a remarkable occasion to further international understanding and foster goodwill through long-standing fellowship and community service.
Our Past President Fredy, the chairman of the District 3330 Thailand – Switzerland Inter Country Committee (ICC), introduced our special guest presenter for the day, Rotarian Paul Ruegg of the Rotary Club of Oberer Zürichsee in Switzerland. Paul discussed the latest developments of the international partnership for community service on behalf of Past President Bernhard Marti, the chairman of the Rotary Inter Country Committee in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Fredy followed by presenting the recent service collaborations between the countries as well as the upcoming ICC delegation visit to the Children of the Forest School in the Sangkhlaburi district of Kanchanaburi province.
Another highpoint of the meeting was a special visit by President Sudarat of the Rotaract Club of Rajamangala University Rattanakosin – Wangklaiganwon Campus with faculty advisor Winnie. The Rotaract club had been awarded the ‘Sustainable Service Project’ trophy from District Governor Dr. Chatchawal in Rotary Year 2023-24, which they received in today’s meeting. They went on to cordially invite us to their school building renovation and children’s day project at Ban Nern Payom School in Bueng Nakhon on 14-16 February as well as their ‘United for Change’ charity fundraising luncheon on 25 February, with entertainment and a four-course meal at Chom Kluen Hotel. It’s always inspiring to witness today’s youth going through their daily lives with the ‘Service Above Self’ approach to helping the underprivileged and disadvantaged in our world.
