It was another great meeting of Rotarians and guests who attended to recognize Rotary International’s 119th Anniversary on 23 February. President Brian began with a brief history of the Rotary Club of Chicago, the first Rotary club that was established in 1905 by the lawyer Mr. Paul Harris.
The meeting continued with presentations reinforcing the Rotary Four-Way Test, the Rotarian Code of Conduct, the Five Avenues of Service, the Seven Areas of Focus and the annual theme for Rotary Year 119.
We proceeded with the formal inductions of two new members into our club, Jim and Laurie Day, now bringing the total to 65 Rotarians. Most amazingly, Jim correctly answered the trivia question of “Who won the FIFA World Cup in 1962?”, and he even knew the score!
We also had the pleasure of another insightful presentation on the innovative “Micro Loans” program for the disadvantaged in Southeast Asia by our frequent visiting Rotarians Roger and Carol Ward of the Rotary Club of Aireborough with their fellow member Alyson Wort.
Everyone enjoyed the fellowship luncheon and Past President Fredy, the Chair of the District 3330 Thailand – Switzerland Inter Country Service Committee won the bottle of wine for the day.
