The Rotary International theme for September is “Basic Education & Literacy”
Our Rotarians visited the students of Ban Nern Payom School to hand over school supplies and sports equipment in the morning on 25 September. Located in an undeveloped area that is mostly dense jungle in the mountainous region of Bueng Nakhon sub-district, the school educates 50 students ages 4 to 12 with one full-time teacher Mr. Anun and one volunteer teacher Ms. Eye.
We donated personal supplies for each student including black and colored pencils, erasers, rulers, scissors, crayons, water colors, paper notebooks, socks, soap and extra supplies for the teacher, as well as footballs, badminton equipment and dakraw kickballs. Also, 100 kg of rice for a month’s consumption was donated by local friends of Rotary, the Burgess family.
The day continued with more fun when the kids invited the Rotarians to play soccer and badminton before running to the dining area when the lunch bell rang at noon. The school and the local villagers are not connected to the electricity grid but a limited amount of solar power is in use. Special thanks to Club Secretary President-Elect Erik and Rotarian Hanne for working to assemble the 50 bags for all the students.
