Our Rotarians and friends visited Nun Nid’s Dog Shelter to inspect and hand over the solar-powered electricity system on 23 December. This is another one of our joint-projects with the Rotary Club of San Francisco Greater Mission and individual donors to secure long-term, sustainable power for the operation.
The project was completed on 5 December with the installation of a new DC/AC inverter, battery storage unit, solar panels and additional lighting. A new solar-powered water pumping system was also installed to provide fresh water from the nearby canal. There is no provincial electricity grid in the area and now the existing diesel-powered electricity generator is no longer needed thereby eliminating the operational cost and carbon emissions of fossil fuel combustion.
The shelter has been managed by the Buddhist nun, Khun Nid for the last nine years and currently provides food and medical treatment for about 360 dogs and 70 cats. It is located in a remote, undeveloped region in Pran Buri district about a 60-minute drive from the Hua Hin city center.
Rotarians and friends UNITE FOR GOOD to assist the underprivileged as well as support the ethical treatment of animals.
